Oregon school districts will soon decide how to start spending over $1 billion in federal stimulus funds. Before they do, FBO Executive Director Whitney Grubbs explains why it’s so important to not only listen but actually partner with students and families who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and longstanding inequities.

"Given the urgency to act quickly, it can be easy to think of community engagement as a 'check-the-box' activity or a 'feel-good' exercise," she writes in a new Sunday op-ed for The Oregonian. "In fact, it’s a vital strategy to move Oregon toward a more effective and racially just education system that sees, hears and cares for every child."
